So, why The Random Crafter?

I never stick to one thing for long, not until recently. I have always enjoyed making something. Origami, cross stitch, knitting, crochet, sewing, card making…those are just the ones I remember!

I’ve been wanting to start a blog for a long time, but never knew where to start or what I would write about. I thought perhaps I wasn’t literate enough to blog or if I would have anything even remotely interesting to say. I still don’t, but here I am anyway!

When I was little, my Auntie taught me how to cross stitch and I do still dabble occasionally, I like small cross stitch projects for cards. I started Christmas trees in silver thread on a navy background about two years ago and have still not got round to finishing them…I never said which Christmas they would be ready for 😂

My Auntie also taught me how to knit, I remember having this cute bag with cats on it, it had lots of random scraps of wool and knitting needles of all sizes in it. I also had a little Ladybird book which had some patterns that I tried. I wish I knew where all of that was now…

I read about a lot of people who learned sewing/knitting/crochet from their grandmothers. This always makes me giggle as my grandma doesn’t like any of these things. She did the most amazing drawings when she was young and went to art college after school but as soon as computers became available for household use, she was hooked on that, so I got into computers from a young age. She is now a gamer and plays lots of role playing games on her PS4…she’s awesome 😊

Her mother was creative, she painted and also sewed clothes and did some embroidery. I think it just skipped my grandma as all the other girls in my family either sew, knit or crochet.

See, random. I babble about the most random things!

I like to take photos of everything I make and the progress as I am making them. I think having a blog will help me keep a better track of this and as I have a rubbish memory, it will help me remember what I made, when I made it and who I made it for.

Here is a snippet of just some of the things I have made from all different crafts over the last few years:

I doubt this blog will even get viewed but I’m really only doing it for myself as an output for the randomness (is that even a word?!)…well, if you are reading this…happy crafting 💜  H x
