Working through the WIPs

I made a list of my WIPs (Work in Progress) last week and I have more than I thought 😡 And I don’t think I got them all! πŸ™ˆ Plus I have a sewing WIP list and a crochet WIP list, I have lots to keep me busy.

On top of having lots of things on the go, I also keep thinking about new things I want to try. I have a thirst for knowledge and am always looking for something new to do. I have loads of patterns for bags, purses and other little items that all involve new techniques but I never feel I can settle on anything, and when I start something I struggle to finish it. Not sure why.

I’ve been feeling restless lately and even though I have a need to be productive, I also feel drained and have no motivation to do anything. I managed to make myself finish one of my WIPs on the weekend which was Jade by Moments Designs that I had started making for my mum. I started it shortly after the test I took part in for Jade a couple months ago, I thought it would be a good one to finish now with Mother’s Day just around the corner 🌷
I spent most of Saturday working on it and then finished off the little bits Sunday morning, as usual I had G do the rivets for me as I never seem to be able to hit the tool straight and end up getting them wonky. He always does a nice job and he likes to help.

I added a keyfob to this version by adding a little tab and a D-Ring in the side seam of the lining, then I made a small strap and added a lovely little piece of keyfob hardware (I wish I could remember where I got it) and it turned out so much better than I expected. I had a small swivel clip lying around so used that to clip it to the D-Ring. My mum can attach her keys to it and easily find them when needed.

I like to take pictures of my progress as I make things, helps me to remember the journey and everything I have learned. I find the construction of bags to be fascinating and each one I make is different and uses different techniques. I also think it’s amazing how you can go from a few pieces like those on the right, put them all together, squish them about like you can see above (the squishy ball of fabric lol) and then end up with something so lovely…

She has a zipper pocket, and four slip pockets, two of which are pleated. Lots of lovely pocket space 😊

I also love a bit of bling, so I added this lovely ‘handcrafted’ tag on the front:

G’s lovely rivets:

And finished:
Β I had also been meaning to fix the strap on another Moments bag that I made, the Amber Messenger bag which I made at the Big Bag Weekender in November. I admit I rushed it and it wasn’t as good as I know I could have made it, in the last couple of weeks some of the stitching had gotten caught on the velcro on my jacket and had started to come undone, and then I lost a wonky rivet (one that I did) so I made the time to fix it as I use this bag mostly for work every day as it’s a nice size, and I can’t overfill it with unnecessary items. All I need now is a purse to match…Β πŸ˜‰

What have you been up to this week? Sewing, crochet, painting, card making? I’d love to hear about it 😊 xx H xx πŸ’œ
